Overview

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was founded, according to presidential decree no. 239, in 1983, and the announcement was published in the official magazine on 24-7-1983. Professor/ Abd el Hamid Shafiq Shalaby was assigned to be the first dean of the faculty on 13-5-1985. The faculty started its academic journey in October 1986.
The faculty’s brilliant administration had dedicated their immense efforts to make the faculty stand out among fellow educational institutions. The administration issued the decision to add more competitive departments to the faculty, such as Wildlife and Zoo departments at Suez Canal and Sinai regions especially and in Egypt in general.


This department was considered a turning point across all the Egyptian Universities. It is concerned with the health and safety of the wild animals in the Canal and Sinai regions in particular and Egypt in general.


The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine occupies a strategic position in the Suez Canal and Sinai regions. It is located in Ismailia the center of the Canal governorates. This incredible geographical location is characterized by the abundance of natural resources, lakes, and nature reserves that gives the region a distinctive nature that maximizes the faculty’s role in preserving animal health by establishing fauna, poultry, and fish wealth farms in addition to food product's health and safety made from fauna. 


The Faculty consists of 21 scientific departments teaching a total of 28 courses that enrich the students with the latest curriculum and science related to Veterinary Medicine. Moreover, special units like (faculty's educational farm- veterinary clinics- community service centers). Besides, presence of two museums one for wildlife and another for anatomy. The faculty combines the quality assurance unit and central laboratory including the latest scientific devices for all scientific areas. In addition to the presence of houses made for experimental animals and selling units. 


In January 1992, 39 students graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at SCU to be the first generation of veterinarians the faculty had witnessed. In the academic year 2012-2013, 646 applicants applied for Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine. While 144 individuals had registered for postgraduate studies, 77 of them in specialized diploma degrees, 49 students registered for the master's degree, and 18 students registered for a Ph.D. degree.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University, works on graduating veterinarians who are able to compete in the labor market and lead entrepreneurship to promote livestock and wildlife and preserve public health through distinguished educational and training programs aligned with the requirements of fourth-generation universities, as well as innovative applicable scientific research to achieve sustainable development goals for society, while upholding professional values and ethics.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - at Suez Canal University seeks to achieve seven main goals represented by the following:
Each goal consists of a set of tactical objectives and each tactical objective consists of a set of operational objectives.

 

First goal: Graduation of Outstanding Veterinarians who can compete in the labour market.

  • Developing the undergraduate program and courses and introducing new programs according to the needs of the labor market
  • Development of educational systems.
  • Developing the capabilities and building the student's personality
  • Creative graduate who is able to communicate and think positively to create job opportunities.

 
Second goal: Developed up-to-date Postgraduate Programs.

  • Developed postgraduate programs that enable students to compete locally and regionally.
  • Extension to attract local and regional students.

Third goal: Stimulating an Environment that Supports Knowledge and Scientific Research Outcomes.

  •  A research plan for the faculty-directed at serving the community.
  • Supporting research outcomes and academic knowledge.
  • Strengthening local, regional, and international collaboration with corresponding universities and colleges.
