Overview


Clinical pathology is a medical specialty that is concerned with the diagnosis of disease based on the laboratory analysis of bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, and tissue homogenates or extracts using the tools of chemistry, microbiology, hematology, and molecular pathology. Clinical pathology covers many laboratory functions. It is concerned with disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Clinical pathologists are healthcare providers with special training. They often direct all of the special divisions of the laboratory. This may include the following:

  • Blood bank
  • Clinical chemistry and biology
  • Toxicology
  • Hematology
  • Immunology and serology
  • Microbiology

The clinical Pathology Department occupies the 2nd floor in the Abd-Elhamid Shalaby building. It is considered the backbone of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine hospital that serves Ismailia, Suez, Port said governorates. The department also carries out much of the post-graduate scientific research for master's and doctorate researchers.

Mission
The Department of Clinical Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University offers an educational program developed for undergraduates and graduates to participate in the preparation of veterinarians and researchers with a distinct level of professional and research and technological high meets the requirements of the labor market in the field of clinical pathology for the development of livestock, fisheries and poultry, public health, and food safety.

Vision
Department of Clinical Pathology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University seeks to be leading local sections and have the ability to achieve honorable competing levels, excellence, and continuous development in veterinary diagnostic and analysis, scientific research, and community service.

Goals

  • To participate in preparing a highly qualified veterinarian, can deal with various problems in the field concerning humans and animals alike.
  • Teaching the senior student's decision Article Clinical Pathology.
  • To contribute to preparing technical scientific cadres, able to: 

                   a-Identify accurate diagnosis of diseases through proper analysis.
                   b-Differentiate between similar diseases in symptoms and through differential diagnostic tests.
                   c- Gain the use of tests and skills to get to the proper diagnosis.
                   To be aware of the importance of medical tests in diagnosis and treatment.

Undergraduates

With our Bachelor of Veterinary Science, you can enjoy an education that is flexible and internationally recognized, equipping you with the necessary skills to excel in your dream career.  By the end of our degree, you can expect to be provided with a comprehensive education that taps into the multifaceted discipline of laboratory examination and analysis.
That provides the students with the knowledge and skills of clinical laboratory assays that are used to detect or evaluate different pathologic states in domestic animals as well as the general events of hematopoiesis and different blood chemists.
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University, grants the student Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Clinical Pathology Laboratory

Education system
1-  Learning language along all academic years is English, but in Arabic for University requirements.
2-  Bachelor degree period is 6 years. 
3-  Education system inside the faulty is Credit hours system. Each academic year is divided into two semesters.
4-  Student per each semester takes theoretical and practical courses, mentioned in the academic plan of education program.
5-  For each course, number of hours are mentioned in education plan.
6-  Student is shifted from one year to next year, in case of success in all courses, failure or absence (with or without an excuse) minimum in two courses only.
7-  Student who failed in more than two courses, must re-take courses failed in and undergo the exam in the next year.
8-  As for senior students who failed in more than two courses, they will take the exam in the 2nd round in September. If they failed in 2nd round exam, Statement Z will be applied on them.
9-  In case the student passed in re-taken course, he/she will acquire highest “accepted” grade, if the student is absent with an accepted excuse, he/she will acquire actual grade.
 

Postgraduates

The faculty offers its graduates different degrees to acquire:
-  Diploma degree 
-  Master’s degree
-  PhD degree

Terms of applying:
-  Student applies a request to faculty’s Dean, who shifts him\her to department’s council in charge, as to state research’s topic and program, Finally all documents will be presented to faculty’s council for needed action.
-  Research topic is stated before applying at least with two years. Committee is in charge to edit research’s title.
-  Faculty’s council is in charge with stopping student’s registration for a period of time, in case of applying an accepted excuse, deprives him\her from education or research completion. This period will not be included with period mentioned in (16) (17) terms.
-  Student’s registration is stopped in case:
Supervisor’s report about the student is unsatisfying.
Estimated period is ended and student did not apply the research yet.
If the committee refuses discussing research paper twice.
-  Student applies 10 copies of research paper, after being accepted, as to be distributed among committee’s members and faculty’s library.
-  The committee is in charge to exchange research paper with other universities.

Guidelines of the research plan and focus in the department.
The research plan of the department is in line with the research plan of the faculty in the environmental sciences sector, as the department focuses on environmental pollution research while developing solutions to reduce pollution of water, air, soil, and food resources.
Also, the research plan of the department is in line with the research plan of the faculty in the veterinary medicinal sciences sector, where the department studies the factors related to improving food of animal origin, as well as setting priorities for studying animal, bird and fish diseases and seeking to find modern methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment.
