Overview
The Department of Parasitology was established at the beginning of work at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University in 1987, and it had one teacher, Dr. Hamdi Muhammad Abdel Wahab Al-Jawadi, in addition to one assistant teacher, Dr. Muhammad Jamal Abdel Moneim Hassan, and one demonstrator, Dr.Ahmed Anwar ElSayed After that, teaching assistants were appointed by assignment, until the teaching staff reached six members, including a vacationing member, as well as one assistant teacher and one teaching assistant.
The Parasitology Department is one of the departments of the college that contributes scientifically and intellectually to preparing veterinarians for the field working in veterinary units, farms, slaughterhouses, pharmaceutical companies, veterinary laboratories and vaccines laboratories, and all fields of veterinary medicine.
The department is concerned with studying parasites of various kinds, worms, arthropods, and protozoa, both of which infect animals and humans and that move between them. The department focuses on the problems caused by parasites, methods of diagnosing them, and how to control them in humans, domestic animals, wild animals, birds, and fish.
It also teaches 10 courses related to parasitology for graduate students, diploma, master, and doctoral degrees.
Mission
Providing an advanced and distinguished educational service in parasitology that contributes to the number of distinguished veterinarians who can compete in the working field and have high professional ethics at the national and regional levels.
Supervising and preparing for master's and doctoral theses in the field of parasites for applicants and providing modern and advanced scientific research aimed at solving community problems and providing innovative applied solutions in the field of animal and human parasites by sending its members to missions outside the country and by fetching projects to provide the department with the latest equipment and supplies to advance the educational and research process.
Vision
The Parasitology Department aspires to occupy a high position among the departments of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Parasitology Departments in the corresponding Faculties regionally and internationally.

- Establishing general skills in how to use computers to search for information related to parasites.
- Developing students' cognitive skills in the field of parasites of all kinds and methods of diagnosing.
- Developing mental and creative capabilities through laying down ways and methods for reducing and controlling the infection.
- Development of general skills acquired during training to work in teams and workshops.
- Developing skills in the field of parasites by using the microscope to identify and diagnose parasites and their different stages.
- Providing an advanced research service that contributes to solving environmental problems and reducing parasitic diseases in animals and humans.

We work on training undergraduate students on examining feces and blood samples. Animals' samples are being examined inside faculty's farm continuously.
Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Suez Canal University, grants the student Bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine.

Education system
1- Learning language along all academic years is English, but in Arabic for University requirements.
2- Bachelor degree period is 6 years.
3- Education system inside the faulty is Credit hours system. Each academic year is divided into two semesters.
4- Student per each semester takes theoretical and practical courses, mentioned in the academic plan of education program.
5- For each course, number of hours are mentioned in education plan.
6- Student is shifted from one year to next year, in case of success in all courses, failure or absence (with or without an excuse) minimum in two courses only.
7- Student who failed in more than two courses, must re-take courses failed in and undergo the exam in the next year.
8- As for senior students who failed in more than two courses, they will take the exam in the 2nd round in September. If they failed in 2nd round exam, Statement Z will be applied on them.
9- In case the student passed in re-taken course, he/she will acquire highest “accepted” grade, if the student is absent with an accepted excuse, he/she will acquire actual grade.
Postgraduate students study feces, blood samples, and all requirements to finalize the laboratory study related to the research process including worms and parasites and categorize them using different methods. We target to train Bachelor's students to examine stool and blood samples inside the laboratory. Farm animals' samples are being examined inside the faculty continuously.
The faculty offers its graduates different degrees to acquire:
- Diploma degree
- Master’s degree
- PhD degree
Terms of applying:
- Student applies a request to faculty’s Dean, who shifts him\her to department’s council in charge, as to state research’s topic and program, Finally all documents will be presented to faculty’s council for needed action.
- Research topic is stated before applying at least with two years. Committee is in charge to edit research’s title.
- Faculty’s council is in charge with stopping student’s registration for a period of time, in case of applying an accepted excuse, deprives him\her from education or research completion. This period will not be included with period mentioned in (16) (17) terms.
- Student’s registration is stopped in case:
Supervisor’s report about the student is unsatisfying.
Estimated period is ended and student did not apply the research yet.
If the committee refuses discussing research paper twice.
- Student applies 10 copies of research paper, after being accepted, as to be distributed among committee’s members and faculty’s library.
- The committee is in charge to exchange research paper with other universities.
- There are laboratory work for Postgraduate & Undergraduate students.
- Postgraduate students examine fecal samples for their research by different methods as: floatation & sedimentation concentration techniques.
- We train undergraduate students to examine fecal samples in the laboratory.
- Fecal samples from farm animals of our faculty are examined regularly and continuously.
